CO2

Preferred submission size: 1.5 ± 0.5 mg carbon (~3.0 mL CO2 at 1 atm)
Minimum submission size: 0.2 mg carbon (~0.4 mL CO2 at 1 atm)

CO2 samples are purified gas with low water content and no sulfur or nitrogen compounds.  CO2 samples are reduced to carbon in the presence of a metal catalyst for AMS measurement.

Sample Submission Recommendations

Submit samples in torch-sealed glass vials with 6mm diameter and 120 – 220mm length, though other sizes may be accommodated.  Label vials directly with a permanent marker or attach a small adhesive label.  Wrap each vial in padded material.  Label outer packaging with “FRAGILE. GLASS. Handle with Care.”

Please contact us before submitting your first CO2 samples.

Graphite

Preferred submission size: 1.5 ± 0.5 mg
Minimum submission size: 0.2 mg

Graphite is the carbon product that results from the reduction of carbon dioxide in the presence of a metal catalyst, typically iron or cobalt.  A graphite sample submitted for AMS analysis consists of carbon and the metal onto which it formed.

Sample Submission Recommendations

Submit samples as loose graphite or pressed cathodes.  Loose graphite may be submitted in individually labeled microcentrifuge tubes, carefully folded foil pouches, or in any small container from which it can be easily removed.  Pressed cathodes must be compatible with our instruments.  Each cathode should be inserted into a clearly labeled microcentrifuge tube (or similar container) and securely packaged for shipment.

Please contact us before submitting your first graphite samples.
